simply southern seleta
image source: my crappy iPhone pics
For one whole year I've been waiting for the December issue of Southern Living to get a peek at the home of Seleta Howard of Simply Seleta. The latest issue did not disappoint. The striped rug, the chair, the custom banquette were just a few of my favorites featured in Seleta's home. My iPhone pics don't do it justice. Just go buy the issue. Not only is Seleta's home beautiful, but there's a few other homes featured which offer great interior inspiration as well.
If you're not familiar with Seleta or her blog, she dishes on all things stylish and also shares the happenings of her family of six, and they are cute bunch! No really, go check them out. Her children are adorable. All could be models for the Gap or J.Crew, but then again their mother is a stunning lady as well.

feeling frazzled
Yesterday for some reason Google disabled my account. My whole account. I couldn't check e-mail. I couldn't follow blogs in my Reader. I couldn't even blog or visit my blog! It was disabled without warning and the only reasoning was I may have violated the terms of service, which I really had no idea how I could've done so.
So this morning, I did everything in my power to gain access back. I even considered sending a fruit basket to Google, begging to be allowed back in. Then I read a tip about clearing cookies and caches. I did it, tried to log in again to my account, Google asked for my mobile number, text me a verification code, I entered it and TADA! finally gained access! Yay!
However, the downside is I spent a great deal of time trying to resolve the issue that I ran out of blogging time. Sorry, hopefully I can get it together later and post something a little more interesting.

silverware shopping
Last month when visiting my brother and his wife I noticed they were still using the same silverware from their bachelor days. I asked, "didn't you receive silverware as a wedding gift?" Clearly, not and they' ve been married for two years now! But it gave me the perfect idea for a Christmas gift. So this Cyber Monday I'll be shopping around for a great deal on silverware.
How about you? What and who will you be shopping for this Cyber Monday?

happy thanksgiving
Though I have so much to be grateful for, I thought I'd share a few snapshots of a few that are in my top ten. Listed from top to bottom: Morning cup of coffee. A ride on my bike. Time with my little one.
I hope everyone is enjoying their Thanksgiving! And hopefully you'll take time to reflect on a few things you're thankful for too.

one little indian
My daughter is home from school this week, which means mommy had to get creative and find a project to work on. Granted, this didn't take very long, but even so, it was something fun we made together. And she's had fun showing it off! If you have any paper bags laying around, this might be something you distract the kiddos with.
Below was my inspiration:
That's me age 7 and my daughter age 3. Clearly, I was into chevron patterns even then.

mirror, mirror, on the wall
I have a thing for mirrors. The bigger, the more over-sized, the better. And the great thing about mirrors is they do well in most any room and help bounce more light in. It's almost like adding a window! Not to mention a mirror can make the room feel double the size. It may not tell you who is the fairest of them all, but it sure will brighten, lighten and expand your interiors!

holiday dressing PART III
Confession: I'm one to rarely wear black. I decided a long time ago that I needed to incorporate more color into my wardrobe and limit all-black ensembles. While black can be sophisticated, elegant and classic, it feels too safe. However, I know not everyone is on TEAM COLOR, so here are a few holiday dress options for those of you who back black.
1. ASOS Midi Body-Conscious Dress in Metallic Color Block $71.88
2. Piperlime Tulle Lace Dress $69
3. ModCloth Pros and Confetti Dress $74.99
4. Zara Dress with Tulle Sleeves $39.90 - might I suggest wearing it like Jessica with red tights and heels!
Have you found a holiday dress yet? Stay tuned for one more post with additional (affordable) dress options!

holiday dressing PART II
For those of you who want to show your holiday spirit in a vibrant red or green dress, here are a few options I pulled (and affordable too, 'cause hello! it's the holidays and you might want to use your money to buy gifts for others). Again, I offered an option with sleeves for those who want a little more warmth.
1. ASOS Pencil Dress with Puff Shoulders $80.86
2. Old Navy Women's Satin Dress $39.94 - would be perfect with skinny gold belt.
3. ModCloth Go Get 'Em Dress in Red $47.99 - hurry, only one left!
More to come!

holiday dressing PART I
With Thanksgiving next week, it won't be long before our December weekends are booked with holiday parties and events. Here are a few stylish and affordable holiday dress options (and with sleeves 'cause baby, it's cold outside). Hopefully one will strike your fancy. If not, no worries. I'll be posting a few other options in the coming days.
1. Kohl's Jennifer Lopez Pleated Foil Asymmetrical Dress $56
2. Zara Metallic Dress $59.90
3. ASOS Metallic Midi Dress with V Back $71.88
[Though I'm feeling better today I ran a little low on time. My little one has also been home ill and though she's also feeling better, computer time is very limited when she's around. I wanted to do a more in depth showing of holiday dress options, but this is all I could squeeze in for today. Hope you understand.]

when allergies attack
Over the weekend and the last two days my allergies apparently decided to attack me. Though it's mild, it's still hard to get up and go. I've been treating myself to green tea and fresh berries, hoping the antioxidants will do their work and aid me to better health sooner than later. Please excuse the lame post while I go rest my weary head. Hopefully I can start feeling like my old self again soon.

runway to red carpet
Image sources: Style.com and InStyle.com
Five weeks ago I pinned the lovely emerald green Elie Saab dress and was happy to discover Gwyneth Paltrow wearing it recently. I'm so glad the stunningly beautiful dress got some red carpet time to shine even more!

new blogger on the block
all images from: Olivia Palermo's Style Blog and Website
One of my favorite celebrities to look to for impeccable fashion is Olivia Palermo. While I didn't care for the way she was portrayed on MTV's The City, I still have to admire her for her keen sense of style. It seems Miss Palermo finally joined the blog bandwagon and began one of her own. Along with sharing a few snapshots of herself, Olivia Palermo's Style blog covers fashion, lifestyle, travel and tips with a couple of postings a day, each offering a personal glimpse to Olivia's world and interests.

seasons greetings
Thanksgiving has still yet to happen, but one of my top holiday tasks this time of year is producing a Christmas card. It's one of those items that needs to be completed early in order to have time for printing and mailing, which is why even before the tree is put up and decorated, I must get it off my holiday "to do" list.
I usually have an idea in mind of what I want the card to say and look like. Once a photo (or photos) are taken, which I do myself (and must admit are not the greatest), I ask my design friend to develop a design. I'm pretty specific in my instructions and my friend is pretty great at what he does, so usually he has no problem creating a card to my liking. (I also must get real here. While it is a holiday card and I want it to be perfect, I also understand my friend has a real job, so I try not to burden him with constant revisions.)
I'm currently debating a few ideas for this year's card, but below are the holiday cards we've created in the past.
I thought with this one it would be fun for family and friends to see different glimpses of my little one, but I must warn, it was difficult enough to take one good photo of a seven month old infant, much less three for each scenario. The top question I got that year: how did you make her cry? It was pretty easy. I took away whatever she was playing with in the moment and snapped away. The great thing for mailing was I printed three cards to an 8.5x11 page at Kinko's on card stock, had them cut and each card fit into a business mailing envelope, which I bought in red at Hobby Lobby. Perfect!
This one was a postcard, which I printed through Overnight Prints. They were fast, easy and set a good price. My thought with the postcard was it would cost less on postage, but apparently the size I chose bumped up the cost instead. Wah! If I was to do a postcard again, I would probably still keep it the same size, but choose matte finish instead. I came up with the idea of "sweets" when I came across a large lollipop and figured it would make a great prop for a photo. My daughter seemed to like it, but again I'm not a professional photographer and directing a one year old on how to lick the lollipop while angling her face just right was also not easy. Regardless, I still like the way it turned out.
For this card, I've always liked my daughter's bright red tricycle and figured it would make the perfect prop for another holiday photo. I drove her out to a quiet country road one morning, positioned her as best I could and again snapped away. I could not for the life of me get her to put her feet on the pedals. Also, if you look closely she's holding the lens cap. I tried to take it away, but she started crying, so I quickly just let that go. But I love the open road behind her and she did smile, so it all worked out. I asked my friend to create a red/white chevron pattern, which went perfectly with the dotted typeface. These cards were printed two cards to a 8.5x11 page on card stock. I'm really happy with how they turned out.
Now for those of you who do not have a graphic designer at your beck and call, I would highly suggest ordering holiday cards through Minted. They have some of the cutest designs around. Below are a few samples that I simply adore.
If you are strapped for time this holiday season, consider sending out a "Happy New Year" greeting instead. You can send it after Christmas and your friends and family will be just as pleased!

Are your holiday cards ordered yet? With the idea I have in mind I may have to wait til after Thanksgiving to get started on it. I'll let you know how it all works out.

stylish small space
This is an oldie, but goodie. I'm still enamored with the stylish small space interior designer Nate Berkus created for his sister, proving you don't need a lot of square footage to live fabulously.
