hide, as in cowhide

Living in West Texas you see your fair share of cowhide, but growing up I didn't really see the appeal of using it to decorate interiors. Maybe because most of those interiors featuring the cowhide rug had a very distinct cowboy theme decor, which just wasn't my cup of tea. However, I have come across more than a few interiors featuring cowhide rugs and none lean toward the cowboy theme, but more so a sophisticated design scheme, like the image above. It definitely has me reconsidering using one in the future.

How do yall feel about cowhide rugs? Anyone have one? How do you clean it?

dotty

I'm pretty sure these gold dotted tumblers need to be mine. I spotted them over on Erin Ever After. Fortunately, they're affordable. They're available at Bed Bath & Beyond. (I'm guessing you can find them in the Beyond section in stores.)

old faves for my face

I'm always curious to know what are the tried and true makeup favorites of other girls.  You know, those ones they've used for years and would die if they were discontinued? Yeah, well, these are mine, listed in no particular order.

Benefit Lemon Aid - I initially found this at Sephora like eight years ago, when the makeup counter girl suggested I try it, as it's a correcting cream that hides discolorations on the eyelid. It is and it does, but what I really like about it is it gives me a fresh canvas before I begin applying my eyeshadow, helping the colors of eyeshadow blend together better.

L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara - I'm not gonna lie, I cheated on this mascara for a couple of years, mostly because I wanted to know if there was something better out there. What I discovered: it's not always greener on the other side. This favorite was a favorite for a reason, which is why after my exploration phase, I returned to it. I always buy it in the blackest black. I like that it gets that tacky texture quickly, which really helps in applying and molding the mascara at the roots.  My friend saw me applying my mascara one day and was like, "You really put on a lot of mascara." The truth is I really don't put on a lot. Whatever is on the wand is what I use on the one eye before moving on to the other, but what I do (that can give the impression of putting a lot on) is I play with it for a bit. I spread mascara over the lashes top to bottom, then I begin focusing on the base and really pushing the mascara in at the roots and brushing the lashes so they're up (kinda like the idea of hairspray to give that hold at the base) and then I focus on fanning out the lashes so there's not any weird gaps. It's not just about coating the lashes, but working the mascara into it to do it's job, which is to make my eyes look awake. Having the appearance of long, thick lashes doesn't hurt either, which is why Voluminous always wins in my book.

M-A-C Cosmetics Blush in Margin Frost - I was introduced to this particular brand and shade of blush eleven years ago. My cousin was wearing it and I couldn't help but notice how her cheeks had a nice sheen about them. She let me try it and I was converted and have never looked back. It just gives my cheeks a rosy glow like no other.

So what are your tried and true makeup products? Any favorites you've had for years? One thing in my bag I'm looking for a recommendation on is a good concealer or corrector or something to help disguise the veins under my eyes. My skin in that area is so thin and delicate, so the veins come through some and I'd like to hide them, but not with something cake-y. Any suggestions, ideas, tips, I would love to hear 'em.

white kitchen love

images from Glitter Guide, photos by Jennifer Daigle Photography

In my very humble, non-interior design background opinion, white kitchens make the best kitchens. Maybe because white cabinetry seems to go out of style slower than wood finishes. It just seems classic to me. This kitchen in particular belongs to Erica Brechtel of Small Shop Studio which was featured recently on the Glitter Guide.  What I really like about this kitchen is how realistic it looks. A lot of us do not live in McMansions, and therefore do not have huge spacious kitchens. This kitchens seems doable, realistic and within reach, which makes it just about perfect to me! The white cabinets don't hurt either.

stripes & fringe

Sweater Cardigan: Bealls. Top: Forever 21 (two years ago). Pants: Gap. Boots: Target (two years ago. and I need to replace them. any leads on a similar pair for less?). Scarf: Steinmart (several years ago).

I wore this outfit this past weekend as my close friend and I visited an artsy fartsy small town in our neck of the woods.  It was pretty chilly, but it was a nice casual ensemble for exploring.

Just as I predicted, my new day job has interfered with my blogging, and I'm not gonna lie, I miss posting but I miss reading everyone's blogs even more. Tear.

a valentine perk

Though I don't have a Valentine this year, I thought I would share with you a thoughtful little gift idea I've done in the past. Usually my wallet is still recovering from all the Christmas spending, so I try to keep my Valentine's gift expense low, but still want to let the person know I took some time to be original.  This will work perfectly if your mate is a coffee lover, one of those who is devoted to their morning cup of joe!

All I did was paint PERK with watercolor paints (borrowed from my child's art box) and the rest of the message in markers and attach with ribbon to their favorite brand of coffee. You could even use the message along with a gift card from Starbucks or a box of Keurig coffee K-cups, whichever your coffee enthusiast loves. It makes the perfect little gift for Valentine's morning!

(And in case anyone is wondering, my first day went well. Thanks for all the well wishes! I even found a bit of time to post today - yay me!)

day job

I have some news: I got a job! I start today, which means I likely will not have so much time to blog or follow blogs or do too much of anything at all. I'm excited to get back to work and start earning an income again (yay!), but of course I'm gonna miss blogging as well.  I'll do my best to post as often as I can, but anyone who blogs regularly knows blogging is like a job and between a day job and the mommy job, it's a lot on my plate. I wish I could do it all, but I know realistically I can't.

So wish me luck and hopefully we can stay in touch, even if it is a little sporadic!
